Introduction

The Centre has been setup as a R&D Organization, with Public and Private Partnership by Department of Telecommunications - Government of India, IIT- Madras and Reliance Communications at IIT Madras in Feb 2009.

This Centre would undertake R&D activities in the areas of Telecom Infrastructure and Energy domain and build capability and excellence on par with world standards. The focus would be to undertake India specific telecom development to address needs of both rural and urban population, help build market ready talent in the telecom space by suitable training and skill development programs as well as create an environment of innovation in the field of telecom to not only utilize current technologies and standards but focus on building such technologies and standards to address future needs.

The Centre has a small team in place today with diverse skills and experience in hardware design & development, firmware development, communication protocols, networking and software applications. This team would draw upon the rich expertise and experience of IITM in the areas of telecommunication and energy research while working on the various projects.

IIT Madras Research Park is an independent company promoted by IIT Madras and its alumni and was incorporated under Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956.The IIT Madras Research Park facilitates the promotion of research and development by the institute in partnership with industry and promoting economic development.

On 15th February 2008: A tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India, IIT Madras, Chennai and Reliance Communications Ltd. to bring RITCOE into existence
